MATCH RECAP: Earthquakes II vs Whitecaps FC 2

Earthquakes II fell to Whitecaps FC 2 on Saturday afternoon at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, Canada. The match saw the MLS NEXT Pro debuts of Quakes Academy players Cruz Medina and Tristan Viviani, both entering the match as substitutes. Additionally, Quakes II started a very young lineup, including five teenagers and eight total players under 21 years of age. Omar Lemus, the team’s eldest starter, is just 23.

Whitecaps FC 2 would open the scoring very early in the game through a goal by Vasco Fry in the second minute. Quakes II tried to find the equalizer in the remainder of the game but was not able to find the back of the net. The Canadian side later scored the second and final goal of the match in extra time of the second half.

Quakes II will now return home to face Timbers2 on Sunday, May 8. Kickoff from PayPal Park is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT and the match will be broadcast live on MLSNEXTPro.com.
