San Jose Earthquakes players Elise Evans and Andrea Kitahata have been called to the United States U-17 Women’s National Team to compete in the UEFA National Team Development Tournament in Mirandela, Portugal.

The competition will be the first of the U-17s’ new international cycle, giving Evans and Kitahata the opportunity to solidify their place in the squad. The U.S. will travel to Portugal from May 8 to May 18 to take on Mexico, Russia and the hosts.

Evans plays for the Quakes U-15 side that is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation. At the center-back position, Evans has helped the U-15s secure an outstanding 17 clean sheets in 28 matches in the 2018-19 USSDA season. In addition to her club success, Evans recently competed with the U-15 Girls’ National Team and brought home a Concacaf Championship trophy in August, 2018.

Kitahata competes for the U-17 Quakes and is also a regular in the Youth National Team system. In August, 2018, Kitahata and the U-15 GNT earned a first-place finish in the CFA International Women’s Youth Football Tournament Weifang 2018. The four-team tournament featured U-15 national team squads from the Czech Republic, Japan, the U.S. and hosts China.

Both Evans and Kitahata committed to Stanford University, where they will continue their academic and soccer careers.
