Gilberto Velez from the Earthquakes Academy U-12 team is young, but is already catching the attention of his coaches and peers for his abilities on the pitch. Having spent two years with the Quakes, Velez has already learned important life lessons from the game.

“It has taught him to be very disciplined in his activities, including school,” said Velez’s father Gilberto Velez Sr.

Velez’s love for soccer began when he started walking and he was just four years old when he competed in his first game.

“My friend who had a team gave him a jersey let him play,” Velez Sr. said. “From there he started to like soccer and it has continued through today.”
On the field, Velez is recognized for his comfort on the ball and foot skills.
“It is his skill, speed and way completing plays,” said Velez Sr.
The Earthquakes Academy U-12 team has finished competing in games this season, but continue training in preparation for 2017.
