MATCH PREVIEW: Earthquakes, FC Dallas battle for top-four spot in race for home-field advantage

The San Jose Earthquakes return to Texas on Saturday to face FC Dallas in a potential six-pointer as both sides fight for home-field advantage in the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs after qualifying this past weekend.

Kickoff from Toyota Stadium is set for 5:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast globally via Apple TV (English/Spanish), as well as local radio on KSFO 810 AM (English) and La Kaliente 1370 AM (Spanish).

Last Saturday, the Black and Blue (13-8-9, 48 points) punched their postseason ticket and extended their unbeaten streak to nine matches last Saturday at PayPal Park after a 1-1 draw against Nashville SC, who were set to lift Supporters’ Shield but saw their party deferred for at least one more night upon failing to capture all three points.

San Jose faced a first-half deficit after the visitors’ Hany Mukhtar found the net 34 minutes in, but a beautiful set piece from the Earthquakes’ Eduard Löwen found the head of Preston Judd, who headed home his 16th goal of the season in minute 70. The Quakes’ “Never Say Die” mentality has been on display as of late, having come from behind to earn a result in four of their last five matches.

With four matches remaining in the regular season, the Quakes have now reached their highest point total since the opening of PayPal Park in 2015. Now they head to Frisco, Texas, with a chance to move up to third place in the Western Conference with a win. As San Jose currently leads the West with 26 road points, the team is beaming with confidence.

However, FC Dallas (14-7-9, 51 points) and Head Coach Eric Quill have a strong attack at their disposal, including the second-highest goalscorer in MLS in 2026, Croatian striker Petar Musa (20g/5a). American forward Logan Farrington (10g/5a) has provided the team with a second potent option, while Dallas midfielder Kaick Ferreira (4g/2a) was recently named to the 2026 MLS 22 Under 22 list, coming in at No. 22. In goal, former Quakes shot-stopper Daniel has performed well for Dallas when healthy.

This is the second time these clubs will face off in 2026, with the first one ending in a last-second 3-2 win for Los Toros at PayPal Park back on May 16. Sam Sarver, the man who scored the winning goal and infamously celebrated in front of the San Jose Ultras, was sent off this past weekend against Houston Dynamo FC after another confrontation with the rival fans and will ironically miss the rematch.

The last time the Black and Blue traveled to Frisco in June 2025, the Quakes came out with a 4-2 road win. Can they make it two for two as they aim to stretch their unbeaten streak to 10 and make their case for a top-four finish and home-field advantage in the West? Tune in Saturday to find out.
