The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has hired Daniel Vega as an assistant coach. Vega, who speaks both English and Spanish, joins head coach Matias Almeydaās staff for the 2022 MLS season following three years as a goalkeeper with the club (2019-21).

Vega, 37, made 47 regular season appearances over the past three seasons, recording 10 shutouts. Among all goalkeepers in club history, Vega ranks tied for fifth in shutouts (10), sixth in appearances (47), starts (47) and minutes (4,230), and seventh in saves (150).
Prior to playing in MLS, Vega competed for the Tampa Bay Rowdies (2018), Miami FC (2016-18), Anorthosis (2013-2015), River Plate (2007-2012), and Nueva Chicago (2005-07).
The Cutral Có, NeuquĆ©n, Argentina native will join assistant coach Omar Zarif, goalkeeper coach Carlos Angel Roa, strength and conditioning coach Guido Bonini, kinesiologist Fabio Alvarez, and head of coaching communications Agustin Zalazar on Almeydaās staff.
