SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose Earthquakes defender Daniel Munie and goalkeeper Angus Gunn have been named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday for Matchday 26. Munie, San Jose’s MLS All-Star selection in 2026, scored his fifth goal to set a new single-season club record for defenders while Gunn made five saves, including a spectacular double effort in the closing moments to secure a 1-0 clean sheet victory over the second-place Houston Dynamo FC.

The Earthquakes opened the scoring in minute 38 when Beau Leroux hauled in a Niko Tsakiris corner kick inside the box in the left half-space. He shifted to his left and pushed a low cross for Munie who redirected it from close range past Houston goalkeeper Jonathan Bond to make it 1-0. However, in the 88th minute, the Dynamo would get two chances to equalize when Nick Markanich headed the ball on net and Hector Herrera followed up with a strike, but Gunn shut the door on both, with a kick save to parry the latter shot away. San Jose held on until the final whistle to earn their second consecutive clean sheet against Houston and run their unbeaten streak to four matches in league play.
