NEWS: Fuentes one to watch at Generation Adidas Cup

Quakes Homegrown signee, Gilbert Fuentes, has been named one of the top 10 players to watch at this weekend’s Generation Adidas Cup in Frisco, Texas.


MLS Homegrown from 20 MLS Academy teams will be on display in the U-17 competition; also taking part are 12 premier international clubs.


In addition to the Earthquakes, other MLS Academy’s taking part are Atlanta United, Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, three time champions D.C. United (2007, 2009, 2010), FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, LA Galaxy (2011), Minnesota FC, New England Revolution, NYCFC, NY Red Bulls, Orlando City SC, Philadelphia Union (2012), Portland Timbers, Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounder FC, Sporting KC, Toronto FC.


International clubs include Spain’s Real Madrid C.F, Mexican clubs Tigres UANL, C.F. Monterrey, Pachuca and Club Tijuana, European power A.S. Monaco FC, Argentinian C.A. River Plate, Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt, from Ecuador Independiente del Valle, Brazilian clubs Flamengo and Atletico Paranaense, and Japanese team Matsumoto Yamaga FC.


From MLSSoccer.com “The Generation adidas Cup is Major League Soccer's annual elite youth tournament for U-17 academy teams. The tournament focuses on player development and showcases the best teams in the country and the future stars of MLS.


Teams are divided into three regions and participate in two qualifying events per region. The top two teams in each region after both qualifying events will participate against other international sides for the Championship Division title, while the remaining teams will play for the consolation Premier Division title.”
